Slide Canyon Trail 062, Provo, UT 84604

The block white Y on the mountain just east of Brigham Young University is recognized all over the world as an iconic symbol of the university. Hiking the Y trail up to the Y is a tradition dating back over 100 years to 1906 when the letter Y was first built by students on the mountainside. Today the Y and the trail leading to the Y are enjoyed by BYU fans, students, alumni, and hiking enthusiasts year-round. Building on a tradition begun in 1924, the Y is lit up during Homecoming Week, football game nights, and other times during the year by LED lights that line the sides of the letter, making the Y visible for miles.

Begin your hike at the trail head located in the Y Trailhead parking lot. The Y trail is a dirt and gravel out and back trail with over 1000 feet in elevation gain, and 2.25 miles round trip from the trailhead to the top of the block Y. The trail is wide enough for two way traffic throughout. The trail and the trail parking lots are owned and maintained by Brigham Young University and monitored by BYU Police and BYU Security. Access to the trail or the parking lots may change without notice.
